we dressed up for the Nerd Bowl last year. It was a game show type thing. We lost in the first round, but at the end, they gave an ipod mini to the nerdiest person in the room. it was down to a coin flip between me and five girls dressed up as Nerds candy. i called tails, it was heads. the ipod was pink anyways.

An implantable, muscle powered piezoelectric system for generating electrical power

That's the title of Beth Lewandowski's PhD project that I am a part of. So far I have helped in the design of the circuit used for the system, built the preliminary force application device, and improved on the holding mechanism for the current testing device. This upcoming summer, I am plannning to stay at Case to continue research. I am applying for SOURCE funding (Support of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors) of $3500, $3200 of which will go to me. Even if I don't get it, they're going to try to get some funding for me anyway. The SOURCE thing is given to 25-30 students each year.

This summer, my first goal is to determine if the piezo stack can withstand 10 million cycles of an applied force. This means from early June to mid August, I will be watching and maintaining this device that ticks every second. During and after, I will run tests on the stack and quantify any degredation in it or the testing device itself.

My other goal of the summer is to improve on the force tranducer and holding device that will be used in the animal testing. I'm going to help attach this thing to the gastocnemius of a rabbit and run some real animal tests, neato.

I am really excited about getting my own project like this, especially because it is relevant to what I study (orthopedic biomaterials), and I get over 3 grand, and it will give a huge head start on my senior project, and I will have my own poster and paper, and its kewl...

But I am sad that I can't be home all of summer because I miss sara and my sister and my mom and my pop and kane, as if I don't miss them enough as it is. I will however be home for a couple weeks in May and in August before school starts, and somehow things will work out so that I can see Sara sometimes during summer. And I will be seeing my big bro and Rachel and of course beautiful Alexis at her Christening May 27. And i do have a lot of friends staying at Case over the summer (FIVETWENTY). So I guess it'll be a pretty exciting summer to say the least.

but alas, i'm gonna miss sara.

Hey hey! A new post! Welcome to the second part of my fav things series. Today we'll be discussing cars. If you didn't know, I will be getting my own vehicle come this summer. I will be using it at school in Cleveland. I have been changing my mind on which car to buy for probably the last 2 years now, but I think I at last have made my final choice..for now at least. So, here it is!

the all new, 2006 Nissan Frontier

Four-door Crew cab, 265hp V6 engine, and enough cargo room to haul college gear, a drum set, and a couple mountain bikes. All for around $22,000. I never really saw myself getting a truck before, but figuring that I will have this thing for quite a while, I better get a vehicle that can handle such large tasks adults must take. I think it looks bad, you know, the good bad.

Let me give you a tour of my previous auto choices..

Infiniti G35 Sports Coupe

Hey, I can dream, right? At least it had four seats (barely) as opposed to my beloved 2 seater Nissan 350Z.

Ford Mustang

Good car, even though it's a Ford. For a sports car it's pretty cheap. But around this time here i'm realizing the downfall of limited cargo.

Subaru Forester

Pretty nimble, enough room, kinda ugly (a bit soccer-mommish?)

Nissan Murano

I liked the '05 version better. It's still too mommish, and too expensive.

From here I went back to the Mustang, to the Honda Accord, and finally to the Frontier. Let's see if that changes by June.

so just to catch you guys up since i haven't been posting since i started this darn blog...

l. If you're not in family or you haven't read my sister's blog, my good ol' dog Trub died at the age of 91. I saw him alive when I got home for winter break, and the next day my sister and I buried him out back. He will be missed.

2. On a lighter note, I got the best report card I have ever gotten this semester with 3 B's and 1 A. I did however drop a class. If I hadn't, I probably wouldn't have done so well. I still have a pretty low cumulative GPA, but hopefully it will steadily increase. I wish I had got an A in religion tho, I was kinda counting on it. The Bible is hard.

3. I got new glasses. I like 'em. They are rimless on the bottom with a little thicker frame elsewhere. I admit i do look a little yuppie with my new glasses, banana republic camel hair sweater, messenger bag, ibook, ipod, 2 ken cole watches, etc, but hey, i'm still a filipino, ghetto public school-goin, marchin band quadin, rock band drummer at heart.

A few of my favorite things...part I

Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. This is part one of what will hopefully be a multi-part posting. Let me share with you things that I like and like to do.

Tada! I'm a Magic dork! An not any type of magic, but magic the gathering. Yes it's a game of strategy, finesse, know-how, poopoo, thing-a-majig. A little while ago I told fivetwenty that I wanted to start playing. they all frowned down apon the idea, saying it is a dorky waste of money and they will not buy cards if i start playing. Being very well comfortable with my state of nerdiness and with a girlfriend that won't dump me because of it, I purchased my first starter pack. In a matter of days the guys of fivetwenty shelled out at least $200 for more Magic cards that you can shake a Rod of Ruin at (thats a Magic card joke). I've spent around $60, which may seem like a lot i guess for cards, but considering one xbox game costs that much, i aint concerned.

A little about the game...There are 5 colors in Magic, white, blue, green, black, and red. I play with white for its healing spells, cheap and flying creature, and instant creature killers. I also have a red deck for instant damage (shock) and land kills (burn). You start with 20 life. The point of the game is to reduce your opponents life to 0 using your creatures and spells. Lands are what you use to pay for your spells. These lands produce mana. Everything requires mana. It's actually pretty simple.

Above is Serra Angel. It's one of my favorite cards (at least art-wise). I have it in shiney foil:)

Anywho, I could talk all day about this thing i do, maybe a half-day, but I'll stop here. Stay tuned for my next blog where you will see another one of...A FEW..OF MY FAVORITE THINGS! THings! things... (that was an echo)

So it's sunday afternoon, and I guess I have a pretty laid back week ahead of me, I think, so i'm like, well my siblings have blogs, I want something to do, i'm gonna jump on the frayna bandwagon. plus i started using the mail client that came with my computer so i need another homepage. And this is probably a better pastime than smoking or pokemon cards. so i make this blog cuz it takes like 6 seconds. Then I realize, I don't have anything to say.
